Principles

(A) Caring

1. Moral imperative:

'Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity, it is an act of justice’ - Nelson Mandela

This is our moral departure point and inspiration. In a world where enough wealth and resource exists that absolutely no-one should go without the core-essentials of life such as food, medical care or basic education, let alone a world which proclaims ‘human rights’ and ‘equal dignity’; it is not charitable or beneficent to render these basic matters to those without – it is a matter of bringing about justice.

2. Vulnerability:

We work in the poorest country in the world.

We work with one of the most disadvantaged groups within that country – the children who live on the street alone.

Our flag-ship project is in Makeni, the capital of the North, the poorest of Sierra Leone’s provinces.

That is to say, Street Child Makeni works with destitute children living on the streets of the poorest province, of the poorest country in the world.
