Overview
Makeni is the capital of the Northern Province, the poorest of Sierra Leone’s four
Provinces. Sierra Leone is officially the poorest, or least developed country on Earth.

We are working to care for children living on the street, to reconcile them with their families and communities;
and to ultimately give them long-term hope by supporting their academic or vocational education. Our
goal is to over a 25-month period, move these children from a position of desperation to one of genuine hope for
a sustainable future in community.
At the same time, we are working with communities and authorities in Makeni town to help them care for their
children better; to build capacity and desire to protect children’s rights – and ultimately to attempt to stem the
flow of children to the streets.
