Specialist skills placement (e.g. medical, finance, commercial etc)
If you have a specialist skill and would like to use it to make a difference in Makeni or Sierra Leone for any length of time, we would be absolutely delighted to find a way to make that happen.
The first port of call would almost certainly be our own work! Our clinic in Makeni could almost certainly benefit from the support of a qualified medical professional for any duration - either with delivering services and / or training. Likewise we could certainly use those with finance or commercial expertise amongst others. For example a key aspect of the exit or sustainability phase of our work is helping families grow their domestic businesses – generic business counselling or work-shops could make a real difference.
Alternatively, we work with a vast number of partners and have an excellent network in Makeni and across Sierra Leone and it will certainly not be difficult to find an institution, ideally with links to our work, which you could hugely benefit.
In terms of accommodation - those on shorter-term placements may prefer to stay in a hotel or guest-house; whilst for those staying for longer we will arrange accommodation in town either with other volunteers or a family associated with the project.
