Thank You For Joining Us For The Craft Half 2018!
Sunday 4th February saw 270 runners take on the muddy trails of Wimbledon Common for Street Child’s first ever Craft Half - the half marathon, with half pints. Runners came from as far afield as Scotland and Yorkshire, supported by a strong contingent from Putney, Wimbledon and Barnes.
With craft beer provided by our official beer sponsor Hop Stuff every two miles runners enjoyed light refreshment and engaging conversation with our ‘fuellers’ en route and a buzzing atmosphere at the start-finish line courtesy of Putney and Wimbledon Brass band .
Post race, runners were welcomed into the (heated!) Halfter Party tent by local band Don’t Look Now playing classic covers and offering runners the perfect opportunity to dance out any tension in the legs! Sizzling street food traders from Street Child’s partner Kerb were on hand to provide some well-earned carbs and Hop Stuff served up more pints of craft beer.
Revelry at the Halfter Party included a prize draw flights to Sierra Leone to take part in 2018’s Sierra Leone Marathon and the fundraising and running awards ceremony where, in a fitting tribute to what this race was all about, half marathon winners were awarded the naming rights to a school as part of Street Child’s new ‘1000 schools’ campaign for their win.
Race times and photos of the day can be found below and we look forward to sharing the Craft Half film with you shortly!
And finally… a few words from those who took part on the day:
“I entered on the day yesterday—probably my fiftieth half marathon and almost certainly the most enjoyable! Thank you very much.”
“Thank you for a great event, well done to all the organisers and marshals, big thank you. Thoroughly enjoyed it and all the mud made me feel at home, well worth the trek down from Scotland for this one!”
And from the team at Street Child we want to say a huge thanks to all the staff, volunteers and runners involved – together we’ve raised a huge sum for Street Child and created a truly epic new event on the running calendar!
