What will you be doing
What will you be doing as an international volunteer? As a Street Child International Volunteer you'll get stuck in with real development work and have an experience that will change your life. From supporting local teachers in Sierra Leone or Liberia to conducting vital research or working on engineering projects in Nepal or Sri Lanka, we'll match your skills to where you'll have maximum impact.
Our placements are certainly not for everyone. Living conditions might be more basic than you're used to, with limited access to running water, WiFi and electricity, this is an immersive experience that gives you a real taste of life where we work.
Working directly with local Street Child staff, you'll learn as much as you give, you'll meet people you'll never forget and have an adventure that will leave a positive footprint long-term.
Street Child helps the poorest children in West Africa, Nepal and Sri Lanka to go to school. We are dedicated to empowering vulnerable children through education and currently have a special focus on girls’ education and education in emergencies.
Street Child began its work in Sierra Leone in 2008 working with a small number of street children, nine years later we have helped to transform the lives of more than 50,000 children across Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal. In 2017 we launched in Northern Nigeria, responding to one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises where there are over 3 million children are out of school and in need of urgent support.
As a Street Child International Volunteer you will be donating your time and skills to empower children in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nepal and now Sri Lanka through education.
As a Street Child International Volunteer you will be adding capacity and supporting our exceptional local partners whose dedicated work is making a significant and long-lasting impact.
Sustainability: Sustainability sits at the heart of everything we do. It is important that all our volunteers contribute in a useful and meaningful way.
Impact: Throughout their placements our volunteers should strive to be making the greatest impact and a long lasting legacy.
Responsibility: From practically preparing for a trip to carrying out work on the ground our volunteers are accountable for their own contribution and experience. Humility, collaboration and openness are key to getting the most out of your experience and for making the greatest impact.
HOW MUCH DOES THE INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING PROGRAMME COST?
We ask that all volunteers to commit to a minimum fundraising target of £1,000. Street Child's professional fundraising team will work with you directly and support you to meet your target. Project work is only made possible through successful fundraising and we encourage our applicants to see fundraising alongside our professional team as another opportunity to gain valuable skills and gain an all-round experience of working in the charity sector.
Volunteers will need to pay a daily rate of £5-10 per day which will cover the costs of accommodation, one meal per day and any project-related transport. Volunteers will also need to cover their return flights, visas, insurance and other in-country expenses.
