INTEREST IN EBOLA ORPHANS GATHERS PACE: STREET CHILD FOOTAGE ON SKY (LEAD STORY), BBC NEWSNIGHT, CHANNEL 4 & ITV

Street Child was thrilled to see the UK media continuing to show a major interest in the plight of Ebola orphans in West Africa. Coverage has centered on the story of Dauda and other interviews conducted in Kenema by filmmaker Hazel Chandler.

Sky News ran the footage as their lead story throughout their bulletins and website on Thursday evening, into Friday morning.

BBC Newsnight created their own excellent 4-minute edit which they played on Thursday.

The footage was also aired prominently in a great article on Channel 4’s website and on ITV’s Good Morning breakfast show which featured an interview with founder & CEO, Tom Dannatt who sought to lay emphasis on not just the horror of the individual children’s plight, but also the looming scale of the issue, indicated by WHO’s latest predictions of up to 10,000 ebola cases a week, a scenario that would see hundreds, even as many as a thousand orphans created every day. Tom also spoke to LBC on similar issues later in the day.
