This Saturday 26th April, Street Child held a football fundraiser tournament at London City Powerleague in Shoreditch to celebrate the achievements of Team Liberia in the Street Child World Cup last month and to raise money for Street Child’s ongoing projects in Liberia.

9 teams came on the day to compete against each other in a bid to win the highly coveted Road to Rio trophy. After 3 hours of frantic football, hard tackling and plenty of goals, Burning Spears triumphed in the final, beating Team George 2-0 to be crowned champions. A deserved victory for the Burning Spears players who faced stiff competition from all of the other teams. Each team put in a great effort and all the matches were played with a competitive but friendly spirit.

The Road to Rio tournament was held to raise money for Street Child’s projects in Liberia, which include football sessions in the capital, Monrovia.

A big thank you to everyone who came and took part in the tournament.  With our government matched funding we were able to raise an incredible £2,463.75! Check out more pictures of the event here.
