Today was festival day in Makeni, in preparation for the Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon tomorrow. Marathon excitement has been building all week, and the festival was a chance for the runners to relax, unwind and have some fun before the big day.
As well as a hilarious dance-off between our corporate teams and performances by Succulent and Star Zero, two of the biggest Afrobeats names in Sierra Leone, locals and our international runners were able to get involved in face painting, dance classes and a kid’s fun run.
We were also lucky enough to have Team Liberia in Makeni, a group of former street children who earlier in the year had the experience of a lifetime competing in Rio for the Street Child World Cup. The boys travelled all the way from Monrovia, Liberia yesterday to play against a team of our beneficiaries from Sierra Leone.
