Street Child Implements New 'Education Cannot Wait' Plan in Uganda

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) – a global fund dedicated to providing education in emergencies – has committed US$ 11 million to go towards implementing the first year of Uganda’s new Education Response Plan for refugees and host communities (ERP).

The plan will be implemented by 17 leading education organisations including Street Child.

Street Child Given Birthday Boost by UK Government

Street Child is today (21 November 2018) marking its 10th birthday by launching its most ambitious fundraising campaign to date.  The charity is celebrating a birthday boost to its appeal, as all public donations received between today and 21 February 2019, will be doubled by the UK Government. This will enable Street Child to ensure even more children go to school.

FREETOWN MUDSLIDE: ONE YEAR ON

Today marks one year on from the devastating flooding and mudslides in Freetown.

On Monday 14th August 2017 an estimated 1,000 people died when an entire mountainside collapsed in the capital of Sierra Leone. Huge boulders, dislodged by rain, left a two-mile trail of destruction – flattening everything in its path. 

Street Child was one of the first major agencies to launch an emergency appeal.

FOCUS ON OUR ABILITIES, NOT OUR DISABILITIES

I live in remote, rural Kambia District in Sierra Leone.  Polio as a child left me with a physical disability, and I was later inspired to found a rights-based, social movement for other persons with disabilities.  The Welfare Society for the Disabled, known locally as WESOFOD, now counts 360 members with disabilities. We speak with a united voice when we say: Focus on our abilities and not on our disabilities!
