RUN THE UGANDA MARATHON FOR STREET CHILD

About.

Street Child has partnered with Uganda Marathon and we’ll be taking our first ever team out to Uganda in May 2019 and you could be a part of it. Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking for a new challenge, a complete beginner, or someone looking for an excuse to support Street Child, the Uganda Marathon has something for you. With a 10k, half marathon or marathon there is a route to suit every ability. And for those non-runners who don’t want to miss out, you can come along and help out the Uganda Marathon team on race day as well as cheer along your fellow Street Child team mates.

Check out the Uganda Marathon video here.

The Race.

The race is a chance to explore Uganda’s stunning scenery. You’ll be running alongside 5,000 others, with participants from across the globe. Each route - whether it’s the 10k, half marathon or marathon - will take you through the rolling hills and farms around Masaka, with views across to Lake Victoria.

There will be fuelling and water stations positioned throughout the route with medical support on hand to keep you hydrated under the warm Ugandan sun.

This race is all about soaking up Uganda - making the most of the amazing local support and the beautiful countryside - and for the keen runners out there it’s an opportunity to cross another of the world’s best marathons off your list.

The Trip.

Sunday 26th May - Sunday 2nd June.

Sunday & Monday: Sunday you will be met at the airport and travel to your home for the week in Masaka. Acclimatisation days will be spent visiting the equator, exploring the local village and taking part in culture, art and language lessons.

Tuesday & Wednesday: Project visit days will be at Street Child’s projects with an overnight stay in Kampala - meeting the children, families and communities that your money will be supporting.

Thursday: KidsRunWild is a sports day hosted by Uganda Marathon and you, and is dedicated to the schools, orphanages and communities in Masaka.

Friday: The pool & pasta party is a chance to rest, feast and soak up the sun before the big day.

Saturday: Race day is your time to shine with everyone out to cheer you all the way to that finish line, where a cold beer and BBQ will be waiting for you.

Sunday: Sadly it’s time to head home or if you fancy extending your trip to explore Uganda a little more there is a whole host of adventures to choose from that we’ll organise for you, including the famous gorilla trekking and some of the most underrated safaris in East Africa.

Fundraising.

As part of the Street Child team we ask every participant to commit to fundraising a minimum of £1,000 per person that goes towards Street Child’s programmes . Once you have registered, Street Child's experienced fundraising team and mentors will be on hand to provide all the support and advice you need to reach this. And one of the best parts of participants’ experience is seeing where your money will be going and meeting some of the children we have already helped.
